Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at dijana@sydneyswallowingdiagnostics.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

FEES is done on a consultative basis. Therefore, the treating Speech Pathologist remains the treating Speech Pathologist. The FEES is done to inform the treating Speech Pathologist's practice. The treating Speech Pathologist will discuss FEES with the client before referral. Referral is then done on the website with consent from the client. Once the referral is received, Sydney Swallowing Diagnostics will call the client to discuss. A plan for the assessment is then made with the treating Speech Pathologist, who assists on the day. This is important for the ongoing treatment of the client. The recording of the assessment is then analysed by Sydney Swallowing Diagnostics and a report is written. The video is made available to the client and the treating clinician for ongoing education and feedback to the client. The client can still be referred if there is no treating Speech Pathologist.

The Sydney Swallowing Diagnostics FEES course teaches the knowledge and skills required to practice FEES. However, to be able to do FEES independently, competency in nasendoscopy for dysphagia, and FEES interpretation and reporting must be supervised and obtained and then credentialed by your company.

Yes, Sydney Swallowing Diagnostics does supervise and assess competency for nasendoscopy for dysphagia and FEES interpretation. However, this is done with your current clients and can be difficult in some settings. Please contact us for a discussion on how this could be obtained.
